Open to visual artists, dancers, scholars, and teachers, the course arises from a central question: is it possible to teach performance as an artistic language? This question, which concerns all the mediums of art, is even more pressing when we speak of a language that, by vocation, by definition, escapes the codes and the possibility of writing a grammar, of objectifying the necessary skills.
The course, through several sessions, will help each participant to develop their own response, as well as an original teaching proposal.
The workshop will be led by Pietro Gaglianò, art critic and curator. After graduating in architecture he deepened the relationship between the aesthetics of power and individual freedoms, preferring the urban, architectural, and social context as a scene of contemporary artistic practices. He has curated special projects and exhibitions in Italy and abroad. For years he has been experimenting with hybrid formats of the space of art verification, in which laboratory and training experiences are grafted on the traditional model of the exhibition and the conference.

Documenting and narrating performance is a course aimed at the acquisition of narrative skills through the documentation of living arts that is born within the itinerant project of Performance Art IMPORT/EXPORT. The course is structured in the form of workshops and will be held and moderated by Federica Coseschi. Federica is a photographer and videographer originally from Livorno but who lives and works in Copenhagen. In June 2021 she received her Master of Photography & Society at the Royal Academy of the Art, The Hague (KABK) where, the same year, she gave a seminar on Photography and Care. Her research and her photographic practice are influenced by her background in sociology as well as by her personal experiences. The workshop aims to offer participants the opportunity to reflect and deepen a conversation on the relationships and documentation mechanisms inherent to Performance Art. Documenting and narrating performance, inserted within the EXPORT program, is a means of reflection on what it means to document a performance and how to do it in conversation with those who create it, the performers. Focusing on the stories that emerge and develop through the performative act, the workshop is aimed at those who have an interest in approaching and deepening the relationship between Performance Art and documentation.
IMPORT/EXPORT has among its objectives the exchange and intergenerational dialogue. The workshop has no defined target in terms of age and background. This variety can generate interesting conversations in the artistic field and stimulate new points of view. The participation of young people, constantly exposed to new forms of communication, curious and free from mental superstructures, can in fact represent a stimulus and an indication for those in the artistic field who work with unconventional languages that determine an active involvement of the public. Working with performers and producing documentation of their work is an opportunity to confront, reflect and expand their artistic and cultural awareness. Teamwork and exchange are key parts of the workshop when developing different narrative skills for ephemeral arts such as performance. Documenting and narrating performance develops around the principle of using documentation as a practice of Care, where documenting means taking care of something/ someone, in this case the performance and its nature, through a work in dialogue between those who perform and those who document.
To participate, no preparation is required in the documentary or performative field: the invitation is addressed to all those who are interested in discovering the world of Performance Art and the relationships it establishes.

Touching on topics of proximity, weakness, patience, and power, the workshop is presented as a process through a series of actions taken to reach a certain end (result) or mark a new beginning. The process of creating and creating a work of art or an artistic performance will be discussed. How do you go from idea to action? How do you create a concept around it? How can you perform objective reality? Participants will learn about processes through the concepts of transition, transgression, and transformation. The transition from a normal state to the state of activator/performer. What is needed for this transition? What physical, psychological, mental, and emotional preparations are necessary? The provocation of an act that goes against a rule, a code of conduct, or some boundary or limit. What do we mean by using these elements and how is it perceived by the public? Where is the limit? Transformation as a change of form, appearance, nature, or character, leaving the comfort zones and investigating how performative art can be transformative for the artist and the public.
The workshop is led by Ivana Ranisavljević, a Serbian visual and performing artist, who graduated in 2011 from the painting department of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Belgrade. In addition to traditional and classical fine arts (painting, drawing, and graphics), her area of interest, research, and expression is the field of new media arts, especially performance art. Her artistic works (paintings, drawings, etc.) have been exhibited so far in four solo exhibitions and in several group exhibitions, in Serbia and abroad. In the last ten years, she has performed in Serbia, Italy, Poland, and Estonia, independently and in collaboration with other artists.

The workshop explains how the combination of different musical cultures can drive the creation of transcultural electroacoustic music. What are the transculturation processes and what happens to the element of original culture? How does this process take place in the teacher music, in the performance art, and in his interdisciplinary works? How can participants join, experiment, and create together?
The workshop is led by Alireza Ostovar, an interdisciplinary artist, composer, live electronic performer, researcher, music teacher, and performance artist based in Berlin. He was born in Tehran. He holds a degree in electronic music from the Conservatory of St. Cecilia in Rome, a master’s degree in electronic music from the Conservatory of Rome, and a master’s degree in integrative composition from the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. He wrote his master’s thesis on "TRANSCULTURAL MUSIC: A Research of Intercultural and Transcultural Processes in Electrorokwang", shortly after officially releasing his first album, "REFLECTIONS", for quartet and live electronics.
During the workshop, Ali will provide basic theoretical information on the terminologies used in the research, explain the diversity of ethnic groups in Iran, the basics of traditional Iranian music theory, and the differences between Western and contemporary classical music. The artist will also show the technology and software that he uses to create and realize his works.
Finally, Ali will show the interdisciplinary work with performance arts and the relationship between music (transcultural) and contemporary music in relation to his performance Picture of Resistance, part of the IMPORT program
